London and 14-Day Arctic Circle Crossing: Edinburgh Evening Stay Holland America Cruise: Day 11 At Sea- Dinner at Pinnacle Grill May 22, 2025

My husband K got up at 6:20 and went to the gym. What he didn't find out until later was that at 6:43 am, we crossed the Arctic Circle.

I didn't get up until 8:30 and when I did get up, it was 42.8° and mostly sunny. Today was spent sailing the Norwegian Sea.

Our daughter J arrived at 9:15 and we went to breakfast. We arrived there at 9:25 and found it hard to find seats. I guess everyone slept in, since it was a sea day.  I found a raisin roll to add to my usual breakfast.

At 10, we went to the Crow's Nest crossword and to be early for the watercolor class. It was a good thing, because it was full by 10:20 for the class to start ten minutes later. We painted tulips and I rather liked mine.

We decided to be early to the Lido deck for the special Cheese and Chocolate event. I held our seats, while J fetched us strawberry and strawberry/pineapple smoothies that were quite good.

The spread at 11:30 looked quite nice. The chocolate was just that- chocolate candies. They were cream or nut filled. A helpful server got me dark chocolate ones without nuts. Of course, this was lunch.

K and J went to the concierge about the transfer issue. J had found a cheaper conveyance than AAA, but the concierge miraculously was able to get us off at 8 and it would only be $64 each to get us to the airport. We will be getting a refund, but they didn't say how much. Now, we can relax.

At 2, J and I retired to our cabins for naps. At 3, the three of us met in the dining room for the Cupcake Tea. The tea was the same, but, as you can see, there were scrumptious cupcakes in addition to the scones and sandwiches. (This is why we skipped lunch.)

We could not tarry, because J and I wanted to go go to the art room for Creating Designs from Doodles. We wound up using them to draw dresses.

At 4:15 we were done and K was attending a talk on Honningsvåg. J went to her cabin and I did cross stitch in mine. The temperature was still 42.8°.

Tonight was a formal night, but we were not going to the dining room. We were making use of our free dinner in the Pinnacle Grill. J arrived at 5:20 and off we went.

I ordered the Strongbow cider again and J had Fanta. K had Clarendelle Bordeaux. We had an interesting bread service, that I remembered from meals in this restaurant on other cruises.

When we eat here, we always order Clothesline Candied Bacon for an appetizer, because, why not? Tonight, there was also Lobster Bisque, which started out as a bowl of lobster bits and then the bisque was poured over it. The Vine-Ripened Beefstake Tomato Salad was evidently too mundane for me to photograph.

Pinnacle is a steakhouse, so, of course, that's what we ordered and split. Mine was roasted prime rib with Yorkshire pudding. I found the steak a bit too fatty. J got a New York strip with mashed potatoes. K ordered filet mignon with asparagus with Holllandaise sauce and a baked potato.

Before our desserts arrived, a plate with an assortment of sweets arrived. I let the two of them deal with the coconut-covered ones.

I felt that one of us had to order the Omelette Norwegian and I volunteered. It turned out to be a version of Baked Alaska. J ordered Jacques Torres Chocolate Soufflé, which I valiantly offered to take care of, but they would not allow me to suffer so. The same was true of the Warm Chocolate Daelmans Stroopwafel Cobbler with Molten Chocolate Sauce. They are so brave!

We were finished at 7:30 and went down to the World Showcase at 7:45 to hear a bit of "Sing!" At 8:15, the three of us went to the jewelry drawing at Effy, but didn't win.

We were at our cabins at 8:35, where we found an elephant towel animal and certificates for crossing the Arctic Circle. So glad we didn't have to do the Arctic plunge to get them.

At 11:16, I took a photo through the curtain so as to not fry my camera. If we were anywhere else, it would have looked like a sunset. But, a check of the Weather Channel app revealed the truth.

My phone showed 4,347 steps for the day for 1.7 miles.
