Another adventure began today! My husband K and I got up at 2:55 am EDT as part of our effort to adjust our body clocks. There's not much to do at that hour but putter.
We did go for a walk in the neighborhood once it was light to try to make up for so much sitting during the day. Toward the end of the walk, the back of my ankle began to hurt and it was really unhappy by the time we got home. We tore apart the linen closet and found the ankle brace. After showering, I put it on and we went to church, since it was Sunday. When we got home, I put it on over the compression stockings I was wearing for the flight.
After lunch, we made a quick check of everything before our friend D came to take us to Orlando International Airport at 1:35. When we are going to be gone for long, it is much cheaper to ask a friend to drive us than to take the car to a lot near the airport.
We were flying out of Terminal C, which was new for us. We've been there multiple times to pick up our older daughter J, when she'd fly down from DC. We dropped our bags at 2:23 and were in the Pre-Check line at 2:28.
So nice to have paid for that, as it makes travel a bit easier. In fact, we have Global Entry, which makes coming back easier, too. We were through in six minutes, because the machine was tripped by the x-ray machine. I always find it interesting, that that only happens sometimes, not always.
When we reached the shopping and eating area, the Moment Vault caught our eye. It is built as a circle, but with three openings. That is because you can go inside it and watch surround videos of manatees, the desert, etc. On the outside, the wall stayed as a wall made of blocks. However, that wall was soon covered in flowers that grew out of the cracks and then ferns after water flowed through. Very cool.
At 3:11, our daughter J arrived at Gate 242, having flown on American Airlines from DC to terminal B. She got to ride the shuttle that connects A and B to C. She decided to fly down to fly over with us to make things easier to Gatwick. After a while, she was called to the desk to confirm she was present. Then later, close to boarding time, she was paged again. This time they wanted to confirm her bag number, as that had been transferred from the other terminal by employees.
At 5:15, we were seated in 36 C, D and E, with D and E being aisle seats, on BA 2036 to Gatwick. When we pushed back from the gate and started our long taxiing I started watching A Gentleman in Moscow, a series I'd been wanting to see. At 6:08, we took off.
To my great disappointment, there were only three episodes of the show available and I easily finished them during dinner, which was served at 7:40 pm. We all had the chicken with mashed potatoes and rather spicy vegetables. It was good, though. There were crackers, cheese, a roll, butter, some vegetable salad thing in a cup, and a very nice chocolate mousse.
After dinner, I was tired and K was already conked out, when I chose Classical Journey 1 to listen to try to go to sleep. I did manage to doze off.
My phone logged 8031 steps for 3.1 miles, including the walk this morning.
